What is GVWR and Payload Capacity?
GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) – The manufacturers rating of the maximum combined weight of the empty trailer and the weight of the load the trailer carries. Most trailers have the GVWR written on them and not the payload capacity. Payload Capacity – The amount of weight you can load onto a trailer. Example: GVWR of a trailer is 12,000lbs. EMPTY WEIGHT of the trailer is 2,540lbs. PAYLOAD of this trailer is 9,460lbs. (This does not include any factor for the Tongue Weight.) Note that the addition of options or other changes from standard specifications can affect both the published empty weight and the payload of a specific trailer model.
